I really enjoy omegaverse books, especially ones without the shifter aspect... So when I saw this book with more than one Omega to a group of Alphas? I was really excited. Unfortunately, this one didn't work for me.Emotionally abusing a vulnerable character is not romantic. Playing with someone's feelings doesn't portray affection. This could have been great but, it just wasn't. Dark romance books are some of my absolute favorite. When done correctly, the reader sees the dark ugly side of things, without losing all respect/attraction to the hero/heros.The main character, Lilah was dealt a crappy hand. She endured abuse by fellow omegas and those who ran the agency... She was systematically beat down. Honestly, I was excited to see her fight back during the beginning & middle of the book.However, the alphas in her pack? Their behavior did not endear me to them at all. Lilah proved herself over & over, she saved their omegas life, & even that made no difference to them.I kept waiting for these guys to realize how awful they were being, for them to quit playing games with this poor girl and her emotions... AND BEG FOR HER FORGIVENESS. That does not happen. At least not before the point of no return.In fact, despite her saving their omegas life, for a second time... They STILL disguard her & her health so drastically that she almost dies!In the men's thoughts they think about how they are treating her poorly. They see how broken she is... Yet, they still continue the behavior? In fact 2 out of 4 of the alphas know she's their fated mate & they treat her the worst out of every one.The pack's current omega is insecure & starved for affection/attention... And, even he gets more attention than this poor heroine. The alphas are more concerned with their careers than they are with being decent people. The scene with the two omegas feeding each other sauces was sweet/cute.Other than that? No romance, no sweet scenes, no build up of affection... You get the alphas being awful and bouncing between "You're safe here" and "You have no place here... Leave." Essentially, it's them emotionally terrorizing her over and over again.If book two has Lilah finding a completely new group of men, then yeah I'd probably read it. Otherwise, I'd have to pass.I just can't believe they can redeem themselves or their actions. They skirted the line most of the book but by the end? Nah, the author convinced me the alphas were just plain trash.That's not very romantic to me. Is it September, yet? September seems to be the month for second books where mates need to do some serious groveling.I loved this book. I want the next part ASAP. Lilah and Orion deserve better. These alphas are pretty terrible. They don't treat Orion badly, but they don't treat him right, either. Half the time, they ignore him. Atlas loved him, but is so terrible at taking care of him. He mates Orion without asking the rest of the pack if they want to be tied forever to a male omega. They go with it because they were all already a pack before Orion presents as omega, but Hunter and Finn clearly prefer women and barely touch Orion outside of the heat and Jett's trauma regarding omegas has him pretty closed off to Orion outside of the heat, too.As for Lilah, Atlas treats her like an interloper even after finding out the truth and what the dad's (I don't like them, either), he still treats her like that. Finn treats her like a toy because she's an omega, Hunter blows hot and cold and Jeff is just a straight up a-hole despite their shared past. I understand why, but it's not an excuse for the horrible things he says to her.Lilah for her part also makes a lot of assumptions about the pack, but she is never mean about it and considering how she's introduced to them, it's pretty justified. She's sweet and does everything she can not to make Orion feel threatened. For Orion, just having Lilah around feels like a threat even as they grow closer and he becomes attracted to her. Even with that, he's so good with her and they are such a sweet pair.Then of course there are the action scenes. Lilah steps up several times and saves Orion twice. Who even needs alphas? If they didn't go into heat and need the knot, I would be fine with the two of them taking off on their own.In the end, they all realize how badly they screwed up with Lilah, but it's too late. If they don't grovel on their knees, Lilah will be completely done with them and I'll cheer for that.
